Search for jobs in Dubai with visa sponsorship and you will find thousands of adverts. This guide explains how sponsorship works, what the UAE work visa requirements usually are, what a real job offer letter looks like, and when the job seeker visa helps. It is general information, not immigration advice. Rules and fees change, so check the official sources at the end.

What visa sponsorship means in the UAE

In the UAE, the employer normally applies for a foreign employee's work permit and residence visa. That is what sponsorship means in practice, so most genuine jobs for foreign workers in Dubai come with a sponsored visa, even when the advert does not say so. The official UAE government portal also states that the employer pays recruitment expenses under the UAE Labour Law.

Companies on the mainland apply through the Ministry of Human Resources and Emiratisation (MOHRE). Companies in a free zone usually apply through their free zone authority instead.

How to check an employer before you apply

  • The company has a real website, and its careers page shows the same job.
  • You can ask for its trade licence number and look it up with the licensing authority.
  • Emails come from a company address, not a free email account.
  • Nobody asks you to pay for the job, the visa or any "processing".

How to get a job in Dubai from abroad

  1. Prepare a short CV that shows where you live now, your notice period and that you can relocate.
  2. Apply to jobs that name the employer and the city.
  3. Receive the offer letter, check it and sign it.
  4. The employer applies for your work permit and an entry permit for employment.
  5. You travel, take the medical fitness test and give your fingerprints for the Emirates ID. Then your residence visa and employment contract are issued.

Our guide on getting a job in the UAE from abroad covers these stages in more detail.

UAE work visa requirements: a checklist

  • A passport valid for at least six months.
  • A passport photo with a white background.
  • The job offer, signed by you and the employer.
  • Attested degree or certificates when the job's skill level needs them. Attestation means your home country and the UAE confirm the document is genuine.
  • A medical fitness test in the UAE, usually a blood test and a chest X-ray.
  • Fingerprints and a photo for your Emirates ID.

The UAE job offer letter for a work permit

For a mainland job, the offer is made on MOHRE's standard offer letter and signed by an authorised person at the company. The UAE government portal says you can verify a job offer with its reference number through MOHRE's application status service. Your employment contract should later match the offer.

A good offer letter states the job title, basic salary and total salary, allowances such as housing and transport, the contract type and the start date. Read our five questions to ask before you accept a job offer.

Red flags include a fee to secure the job, an offer sent only by chat app, no reference number, a "guaranteed visa", or a request to pay a personal bank account.

Job seeker visa UAE: who qualifies and how long it lasts

The UAE offers a visit visa to explore job opportunities, and you do not need a sponsor or host in the country. According to the General Directorate of Residency and Foreigners Affairs in Dubai (GDRFA), applicants should be in skill level one, two or three of MOHRE's job classification, or be recent graduates of one of the world's top 500 universities. A degree and a passport valid for at least six months are needed. The visa is offered for 60, 90 or 120 days, and fees and deposits change, so check the current amount on the GDRFA or ICP website.

Before it expires, you can ask for an extension, change to a work visa once an employer hires you, or leave the country. Staying past the expiry date leads to fines. You cannot work on this visa.
