How to get a job in Dubai from India: a step-by-step guide for Indians (2026)
This guide shows how to get a job in Dubai from India, step by step: the Indian rules (ECR, eMigrate, attestation) and the UAE rules (offer letter, work permit, visa). It is general information, not immigration advice, so check the official sources at the end.
Quick answer: apply to named employers, get a written offer, let the employer apply for your UAE work permit, and finish any Indian emigration steps before you fly. If your passport is ECR, you need emigration clearance on eMigrate. Never pay anyone for a job or a visa.
Why Dubai hires so many Indians
The Embassy of India in Abu Dhabi estimates that about 4.3 million Indians lived in the UAE in 2024, roughly 35 percent of the population. Dubai employers hire Indians across IT, finance, healthcare, engineering, sales, hospitality and logistics.
Step 1: Check whether your passport is ECR or ECNR
Indian passports are either ECR (Emigration Check Required) or ECNR (Emigration Check Not Required). The Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) says ECR holders going to work in any of 19 ECR countries, including the UAE, need emigration clearance from the Protector of Emigrants on the eMigrate portal. Passport Seva lists everyone who has passed matriculation (class 10) or higher as ECNR. ECNR holders do not need clearance, but they can register on eMigrate voluntarily.
Step 2: Prepare a CV for Dubai employers
Keep it to two pages. Near the top, show your city, notice period and that you can relocate to Dubai. Show results in numbers. See our guide to a CV that is easy to scan.
Step 3: Apply to verified employers and registered agents
Apply on company careers pages and job platforms that name the employer. Under the Emigration Act, 1983, nobody in India may work as a recruiting agent without a valid registration certificate, so check any agent on eMigrate first. As of 9 April 2026, the MEA had listed 3,505 illegal agents on the portal. The UAE government portal says the employer pays recruitment costs. For where to search, read how to find a job in Dubai.
Step 4: Get and check the offer letter
For a mainland job, the offer comes on the standard offer letter of the Ministry of Human Resources and Emiratisation (MOHRE), with a reference number you can check with MOHRE. It should state the job title, salary, allowances and start date. Free zone companies use their free zone authority instead. Before you sign, read five questions to ask before you accept a job offer.
Step 5: Attest your degree
Skilled roles usually need it. The usual route is your state authority, then the MEA, then the UAE Embassy in India or the attestation service of the UAE Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MOFA). Start early, because each step takes time.
Step 6: Work permit, emigration clearance and insurance
Your employer applies for the work permit and an entry permit for employment. ECR holders then get emigration clearance on eMigrate and must buy Pravasi Bharatiya Bima Yojana (PBBY) insurance: INR 275 for two years or INR 375 for three years, plus GST, for cover of up to INR 10 lakh for accidental death or permanent disability. After you land, you take a medical test and give fingerprints for your Emirates ID, then your residence visa is issued. How to spot a fake Dubai job offer
- You are asked to pay for the job, the visa, a medical or "processing".
- The offer arrives only on WhatsApp or from a free email account.
- There is no MOHRE reference number, or the company cannot give its trade licence number.
- You are told to fly on a visit visa and "convert it later" without a signed offer.

Frequently asked questions
Can I get a job in Dubai from India without an agent?
Yes. Many employers hire directly through their careers pages and job platforms. If you use an agent in India, check that it is registered on eMigrate, and never pay for a job or a visa.
Do I need emigration clearance to work in Dubai?
Only if your passport is ECR. ECR holders need emigration clearance through eMigrate before they travel to work in the UAE. ECNR holders, which includes everyone who passed class 10, do not.
Can I go to Dubai on a visit visa to look for a job?
You can look for work on a visit visa or the UAE job seeker visa, but you cannot work on it. Your employer must arrange your work permit and residence visa first. Indians with a US green card or a UK or EU residence visa can get a 14 day visa on arrival.
Is there a minimum salary for Indian workers in the UAE?
For ECR categories, the MEA sets Minimum Referral Wages for each of the 19 ECR countries, including the UAE. Employers cannot hire Indian workers in those categories below the fixed wage.
Do I need to attest my degree for a Dubai job?
Usually yes for skilled and professional roles. The degree is attested in India, including by the MEA, and then by the UAE through its embassy or the MOFA attestation service. Ask your employer which documents they need.
Who can help if a Dubai job offer turns out to be fake?
Call the MEA PBSK helpline on 1800 11 3090 (toll free in India), file a complaint on eMigrate, or contact the Consulate General of India in Dubai if you are already in the UAE.
